Prefer the built-in installer for curated skills.
Invoke $skill-installer with the skill name, or ask it to install a skill from a repository. This keeps local setup explicit and lets Codex resolve the supported installation location.

Install Codex skills for one repository or your user account.
Use the installer or the documented .agents/skills locations. Review the package, confirm discovery, and test its trigger.

Use .agents/skills for manual installation.
For repository scope, place the directory under $REPO_ROOT/.agents/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md. For a personal skill available across repositories, use $HOME/.agents/skills/<skill-name>/SKILL.md.
Codex scans repository skill folders from the current working directory toward the repository root. A narrowly located skill can therefore apply to one module while a root skill serves the whole repository.

Inspect the complete package.
- Read the entire SKILL.md, including frontmatter and linked references.
- Inspect scripts, dependency manifests, network calls, and filesystem commands.
- Confirm the repository license covers the material you plan to copy or modify.
- Install at the narrowest useful scope and test with a harmless representative prompt.

Confirm Codex can see it.
Run /skills or type $ to mention a skill explicitly. Codex normally detects changes automatically; restart if a newly installed package does not appear. Use plugins when you need repeatable distribution beyond one user or repository.
